Tips for Finding a Support Group for Partners of Sexual Abuse Survivors

Peer support groups can be a great aid for partners who are in relationship with a survivor of sexual abuse. These are groups of your peers - people in similar situations. Groups like this are not a substitute for professional counseling. All the support groups for partners that we know about are listed on our main support groups page.

It might take some effort to find a local support group for partners of sexual abuse survivors. There are a couple ways you might find one. First, ask your therapist or counselor; if you don't have an established relationship with one, you could ask one who focuses on sexual abuse or relationship issues. The phone book will list some professionals, or you could search some of the online therapist finder services (we've listed some here). Another option is to ask the leaders of local sexual abuse survivor support groups. While you aren't looking to be in a group for survivors, leaders of those groups might know of other groups focused on partners.
